There are others, but it's simply not - quite - as easy to get infected as it can be (by default, not talking properly configured and managed devices) on an out-of-the-box Windows machine. I'm not saying that social engineering is the SOLE vector of distributing malware to a Mac, but it is and remains the primary one. But decent AntiVirus can still help in such situations. "Drive by" infections on a Mac aren't really possible in the way/extent they are in Windows - instead the primar vectors of malicious software for Mac OS are primary via social engineering - and let's face it, no matter what platform you're using, if you (or, one, or a user) go to a site claiming to be but the actual site is at, and said person genuinely believes it's "OK" to "find" a "free" installer of Adobe CS 2019, and double-clicks said installer, and enters his/her username and/or password to enable the install. There is nothing that is self-propagating without user interaction that can spread from Mac OS device to Mac OS device (absent user interaction). Too many primarily or exclusively Windows-admins enjoy the schadenfreude of Macs encountering/having/being capable of infection with malware which is a more realistic term than "viruses." I'm talking about the current OS not decades ago.

Last but not least: "viruses" for Mac is an interesting item. Sophos free or paid is good, BUT interacts HORRIBLY with Apple Mail, so if that is in use, headaches and aggravation will be unavoidable, and another product is probably a better choice (many Mac users who do use Apple Mail are not quick to give it up). That said, the best (most worthwhile and capable of protection from current real-world threats to Mac OS X) products are the paid version of Malwarebytes, and BitDefender. Same with the *free* BitDefender offering via the Apple AppStore channel. After the demo expires it's a passive (meaning when enacted by the user) check only. The full-fledged Malwarebytes with active detection/prevention is NOT free. Worthwhile products for the Mac that are free are Sophos and Avast (if you wish to use their product).
